Similar in style to the recently announced 100 square foot Muji prefab hut, Mapa, an architectural firm based in Brazil and Uruguay, designed these prefabs to be built offsite and delivered to a remote location with minimal finishing.

Minimod, short for minimal and modular, is created with prefabricated modules that can be configured as the client wishes. These measure quite a bit larger than the Muji hut, and are designed with plumbing and electrical as well as a floor plan for longer-term living.

The two completed minimal structures (the first in the form of a cross, and the second as a “line in the woods”) shown here are one-bedroom and two-bedroom versions built outside Sao Paolo. Despite their appearance and proportions, the Minimods are not built from shipping containers.

Interested? Inhabitat even mentions they are available for a test drive (so to speak) as rentals on AirBnB.
